Help! Recreating gear with 14

Post by darkelfv »

Hi,
1. I load the gear demo, it works
2. If i make a new cylider and set up the gear exactly like the one in the demo, everything goes right through the child cubes. the gear does not rotate. I have they dynamic compound cylider with the hinge, then child dynamic cubes. just like the demo.

I tried making a new file and tried recreating the gear and same result. I can't get it to work and i have no ideal why.

3. Im using priview 14 , is there a new one?
4. For the contest do you have to use 14 or can you use a newer version?

Any help please. Thanks

Ok Simple Question

Has anyone been able to reproduce a gear?

yes, when creating a new gear...

1. The things connected to the cylinder need to be fix up first

2. Create the cylinder, add the constraints.(object buttons F7, add constraint, select hinge constraint, hit "show pivot", the hinge pivots on the px axis)

3. In the cylinders logic buttons Select "compound"

4. Add a cube

5. Set the bounds of cube to cube

6. On the cube use alt-r then ctrl-a then alt-p(clear the "clear parent inverse" do this BEFORE parenting it to the cylinder.

7. Parent the cube to the cylinder

hope that works.. and helps

ok heres something...

it works if you "clear parent inverse" after you parent.. but it might screw up the mesh... :( you will have to fix the cube after you "clear parent inverse"

ok, it does seem to work if you "clear parent invese" after you parent the cube to the cylinder

Indeed, 'clear parent inverse' needs to be done after parenting.

Also, make sure to double-check using 'Physics Visualization' button in the game menu!

Hope this helps,

Wonderful, it works now. All i had to do was clear the parent inverse on the cube.

Thanks alot guys.
