But about a year and a half ago Fedkiw figured out how to run a star algorithm on many processors, resulting in special effects unprecedented in their realism.
Any idea what they mean by that? I skimmed the list of papers on Fedkiw's page and didn't see anything mentioning parallel algorithms. Sure, parallel Navier-Stokes or FEM solvers are pretty non-trivial, but they're not exactly breaking news.

Or maybe they meant "A*" :D
